UCP Readiness Score

Is your store ready for AI shopping agents?

Get your UCP Readiness Score. In about a minute, see how prepared your store is for AI Mode, Gemini, ChatGPT, and other AI shopping surfaces to discover, understand, and buy from you. When an agent cannot transact with you, it buys from the store next to you that it can.

The basics

What is the Universal Commerce Protocol?

UCP is an open standard, launched in January 2026 by Google and Shopify, that gives AI shopping agents a single common language to discover your products, understand your prices and policies, and complete a purchase, directly inside AI surfaces, without sending the shopper back to your website. Think of it as HTTP for commerce. You stay the merchant of record: pricing, inventory, fulfillment, and the customer relationship remain yours.

Discover
Agents find your products and know they exist.
Understand
Agents read your price, availability, returns, and shipping as data.
Transact
Agents complete the purchase, securely, on the shopper behalf.

How it works

An agent, the protocol, and your store

UCP connects an AI agent to your store through a public profile you publish at /.well-known/ucp. That profile declares which capabilities you support, which transports you speak (REST, MCP, or Agent2Agent), and how payment is handled. Payment credentials are held by a separate provider and settled by a payment processor, so the agent never handles raw card data and you never become a card processor.

What agents can do

The capabilities your store can expose

Catalog
Agents search and retrieve your products by query or ID.
Cart
Build an order before checkout, with variants and quantities.
Checkout
Initiate and complete the purchase inside the AI surface.
Order
Order lifecycle: confirmation, status, and updates.
Identity Linking
OAuth account linking for loyalty, history, and saved details.
Fulfillment
Machine-readable shipping options and delivery commitments.
Discount
Promotions and loyalty benefits an agent can apply.
Payments
Agent-safe payment handlers, so you never touch raw card data.
What it takes

What UCP readiness actually requires

A grade is not just about publishing a file. To let an agent buy with confidence, the commerce underneath has to hold up:

Real-time inventory
What an agent is told is in stock has to actually be in stock.
Deterministic pricing
The price at checkout matches the price shown. No surprises.
Agent-ready payments
Payment handlers that work for a non-human buyer (ACP, AP2, x402).
Clear shipping
Machine-readable cost and delivery time, not a policy page.
Automated discounts
Loyalty and promo logic that resolves without a human in the loop.
Agent-friendly security
Fraud and bot controls that do not block legitimate shopping agents.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is the Universal Commerce Protocol?+

UCP is an open standard, launched in January 2026 by Google and Shopify, that gives AI shopping agents one common way to discover products, read prices and policies, and complete a purchase directly inside AI surfaces. You remain the merchant of record.

What is a UCP Readiness Score?+

It is a live audit of the commerce signals your store exposes to an agent. It grades you on Discovery, Conformance, and Capability, gives a separate ACP checkout grade, and lists every fix. It takes about a minute.

Why does readiness matter right now?+

Under 0.1% of stores are UCP-ready while AI-driven retail traffic is up 693% year over year. The stores ready now are first in line for native agent checkout. Agents transact with the merchants that support them and skip the ones that do not.

Are big retailers already UCP-ready?+

The largest are moving first. Walmart, Target, Wayfair, and others are early, and Shopify serves a UCP profile for its stores automatically. Most mid-market and smaller stores are not ready yet, which is the opening.

What does the report include?+

A UCP grade and an ACP grade, the three category scores, the capabilities your store exposes, technical vitals, and every check with the exact issue and how to fix it.

Do you help fix the issues?+

Yes. The report is the first step. We can implement the fixes and re-test so you can watch the score move.
